David Ferry

 

David Ferry RE was born in Blackpool UK and studied painting at the Camberwell Schools of Art and printmaking at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. He is currently Professor of Printmaking and Book Arts at the Cardiff School of Art, Cardiff Metropolitan University,Wales. He was Former Associate Professor of Fine Art Media, at the Long Island University, New York, USA, and former Head of Printmaking at the Winchester School of Art, UK.

Recent solo exhibitions have been held in New York (2003) Berlin (2004), Brighton (2005), Seoul (2005), Poznan (2006), New Zealand (2012) and London (2013). He has represented the UK in many international printmaking exhibitions including the Krakow, Senefelder and Tallinn Triennials. He represented the UK in the 2012/13 international printmaking exhibition, ‘Graphically Extended’ at the Horst Jansen Museum in Germany.

David Ferry was awarded a Pollock/Kransner Award in New York in 2002 and won the Bronze Medal at the First International Book Arts Competition in Seoul in 2004. His work can be found in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Ginsberg Collection, South Africa, The Art Museum of Estonia and the Museum of Modern Art New York, The National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, National Museum of Australia, Canberra and The Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as many corporate and university collections.

Recently he has curated and selected The International Mini Print Exhibition London (2011), The RE Open International, London (2012) and the Wrexham Print International in Wales (2013).

David Ferry was awarded a Fellowship of The Royal Society of Arts for his contribution in the foundation of the Curwen Print Study Centre in Cambridge where he became its first Artistic Director in 2003. In 2010 he was made Professor of Printmaking at the Cardiff School of Art and Design, and a full Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter / Printmakers (RE).
